Specialization: Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency - Pak-EPA, is mandated to prepare or revise, and establish the National Environmental Quality Standards with the approval of Pakistan Environmental Protection Council and to enforce the Pakistan Environment Protection Act 1997. Pak-EPA also approves Environmental Impact Assessment for public and private sector projects after the initial environmental examination and provides information and guidance to the public on environmental matters. Pak-EPA is also mandated to specify safeguards for the prevention of pollution and to undertake inquiries or investigation into environmental issues, either of its own accord or upon complaint from any person or organization. Pak-EPA operates 3 Directorates namely, The Directorate of Environment Impact Assessment, The Laboratory & NEQS Directorate and Admin, Legal & Enforcement Directorate. A National Biosafety Centre was also established in Pak-EPA to meet the obligations of Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety.
