Pakistan Gloves Manufacturers & Exporters Association - PGMEA is the apex body of gloves manufacturing industry in Pakistan. With it's head office in Sialkot the Association has a representation from all accross the country. The history of gloves manufacturing in Sialkot dates back to the early 1900 with the advent of the game of cricket in the sub-continent resulting in the manufacturing of cricket bats in Sialkot. Hence the specific game necessitated for the batting gloves, wicket keeper gloves and inner gloves.

The innovation in gloves manufacturing saw no bars after that as during the 2nd World War more varities of gloves were introduced for the domestic and international markets, such as baseball gloves. Later in 1956 onwards gloves for winter sports like ice-hockey and sking were progressively added to the list.

Today under the dynamic leadership of Chaudhary Muhammad Ijaz - Chairman PGMEA, the Association is playing a vital role in the promotion and welfare of the gloves manufacturing industry in Pakistan as well as contributing valuable and much needed foreign exchange to the Government's over-all export earnings.

Leather Products Development Institute - LPDI and Cleaner Production Centre - CPC are two major initiatives of PGMEA. LPDI has been mandated to provide trained and skilled manpower for the gloves manufacturers in the country as well as equipped them with the latest manufacturing technology in patttern design and stitching. CPC was established with the objective to control the indiscriminate discharge of potentially harmful and polluted solid waste and to improve the working conditions in the tanneries with the introduction of Cleaner Production Techniques. The CPC project was financed by the Royal Government of Norway.

PGMEA is the international gateway to the gloves manufacturers and exporters in Pakistan and is actively involved with the Government in the formulation of policies and budgetry initiatives. It provides it's members with a platform to interact, enhance and generate activities related to trade, services and investment through various exhibitions and seminars both domestic and international.
