"It is so sad to see the gross mismanagement and lack of empathy towards patients in this hospital. The amazing thing is that most of the treatment provided is free of charge but the quality of service is pathetic. The Department of Infectious diseases is a case in point. Here free treatment is provided for HIV positive patients under the guidelines of Punjab AIDS Control Program. HIV confirmation, viral load tests, x-rays and antiretroviral treatment is free of charge. I brought a poor patient for treatment here who had been tested as HIV positive. We were given a list of tests to be done from within the hospital and one test from outside with instruction to have it done from Doctor's Laboratory only. It took us the entire day to have these requirements fulfilled. Visited the hospital with test reports and patient after three days. The doctor looked at the tests and informed us that they were not correct and the patient needs to give blood again for re-testing. So again we visited the hospital the next day and again the same tests were performed but the patient was so weak that he expired the very next day. Such is the fate of the poor in this country. The doctor in-charge of the Infectious Diseases department, sitting in her air-conditioned room did not have the courtesy to physically check the patient even once. There was ample space in the wards to admit the patient but she did not even see the patient. Doctors have lost all decency and empathy, they have become a cog in this corrupt system themselves forgetting the oath they take before joining this noble profession. At the end we all have to give the hisab of our aimal when we meet our creator, so I have left this on God to decide."
