Specialization: The National Commission on the Status of Women – NCSW is a financially and administratively autonomous statutory body established in July 2000. The core mandate of NCSW is to examine and review federal laws, policies and programs affecting the status and rights of women, monitor the implementation of laws for the protection and empowerment of women as per the principles of gender equality enshrined in the Constitution. NCSW also undertakes research and data generations as evidence to showcase various indicators like women’s household decision making power, financial autonomy, freedom of movement, political participation, acceptance of unequal gender roles, exposure to media, access to education and experience of domestic violence. NCSW also has the power to inspect any jail, sub-jail or other places of custody where women are held with prior permission of the provincial governments.
