The Directorate of Environment Impact Assessment at Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency is mandated to implement the Pakistan Environment Protection Act 1997. All developmental projects from public and private sector have to obtain environmental approval in respect of their projects. The Directorate also conducts post environmental approval monitoring to ascertain the compliance status of the Environment Management Plan and any non-compliance by the proponents is liable to invite legal action.
